DOUGHCLOYNE MAN HONOURED FOR HIS COMMITTEMENT TO FUNDRAISING FOR AUTISM UNITS
Tony O’ Donovan is the latest winner of the Cork International Hotel Community Spirit Awards, which recognise people who generously give their time and commitment to the benefit of others.
The Doughcloyne native has been acknowledged for his fundraising efforts for children and adults with autism in the Cork area for the past 10 years.
Since his fundraising began, Tony has raised close to €100,000 with the funds being divided with four autism class units around Cork City.
The monies are used to refurbish sensory rooms, buy sensory equipment, pay for social activities and contribute to the purchase of a transport bus.
The principal in each school tells Tony what the children need for the school term to enhance learning experience. He then ensures the funds raised are used for these specific purposes.
Tony begins fundraising at the start of each year with an annual spot prize draw held on April 2nd – World Autism Day. He has received the support of his work colleagues in Musgraves on the Tramore Road.
Eoghan Murphy, General Manager of the Cork International Hotel, Eoghan Murphy said; “I’d like to congratulate Tony on receiving this month’s Community Spirit Award. His unwavering fundraising efforts are commendable. It is clear Tony is working tirelessly to make an impact. We are delighted to honour him with the Award for his dedication to enriching the lives of others. We wish Tony, his family and work colleagues continued success.”
The judging panel for the Community Spirit Awards is made up of a mixture of representatives from the public and private sector within the community.
